Going through my screenshot archive from the game World of Warcraft, it was kind of amusing to reflect on my user interface and how I’ve evolved it through the years following play styles, mechanics (look at all those Healing Touch buttons on my bars), specs, classes and computers. Here’s 6 years of WoW interfaces. Gallery after the jump -> Read on
- Standard UI, just look at all of those spell ranks!
- Learnt to detach the standard bars, CT_Unitframe customization
- Healing with detached bars and CT_Unitframes
- Viewports, all the rage. Messy with 40 frames.
- Nifil, ON my shoulders!
- For some reason I wanted to pack that viewport full. Laptop UI.
- More Titan bar customization added to the viewport
- My first fully custom UI named Acaciaizm. 6 emphasized buttons for most used spells. This has become the standard in all my following UI’s.
- 4:3 version of Acaciaizm.
- Acaciaizm in action, first time I started using threat and dps meters consistently.
- First move from my original custom UI, pretty similar but working with panel colors.
- Experimenting with a more compact design
- More buttons on the compact theme
- Wanted to try something completely different, borrowed another UI and tweaked. First test with pixel font. Kept the top screen space pretty clean.
- First layout of Acaciaizm: MiniMe. Was tuned towards dps and had a lot of custom eePanels scripts going for hiding raid and party elements.
- MiniMe in action. Ran a lot of battlegrounds during BC. Again, 6 focus buttons for dps rota. All group and raid elements automatically displayed when invited to a group.
- Started to heal again and needed a different layout for that. Same base but moved the action bars for center focus and room for the raid frames under.
- Healing in action. Also started using click to cast addons during this time
- The ButtonsDeluxe mod. I had uploaded the MiniMe UI to WoWInterface and got a request for utilizing more buttons.
- I kept updating the MiniMe UI long after I stopped playing with it. This is the final DPS version of the MiniMe UI
- Acaciaizm Semi. Started playing on a 13-inch laptop full time and screen space was scares. Went back to pixel fonts for better readability.
- Semi in action dps:ing.
- Semi in action, 10 man raiding.
- Slightly altered version of Semi, impressed by Caiths early work.
- Went back to a stationary PC again mid Wrath. By then Caith had released one good UI after another and I finally felt no need to create my own from the ground up.
- I basically tweaked Caith’s UI for healing, moving the unit frames up and emphasizing the main spells. Chat frame was moved to the bottom left and a similar frame added to the right side.
- Final and current UI with Caith’s latest tweaks. Separated the main spells a bit more clearly from the past version. Healing characters just have a different Grid layout setting.
